The Maine Arts Commission is Hiring

The Maine Arts Commission is seeking a Technology Associate to work full time in Augusta, Maine. The deadline for applications is April 9, 2010.

CODE: 0822 PAY GRADE: 24
Salary: $37,544.00-$50,876.80 annually

Value of State-paid Health and Dental Insurance: $339.45 biweekly
Value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement: 19.96% of pay


JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is professional services work in promoting the arts and humanities in developing and maintaining the agency website using dot.net, and Pearl and Oracle databases. A working knowledge of database maintenance, website design and maintenance, imaging software and Microsoft Office suite is preferred. Familiarity with video and audio systems as well as a background in the arts is desirable.

TYPICAL DUTIES: in this job classification include:
• Managing the agency’s website and related database systems.
• Overseeing technology planning and budgeting within the agency.
• Providing technical support to staff.
• Supporting the agency’s electronic grant system, e-Grant.
• Coordinating with governmental technology partners and technology contractors.
• Attending agency related meetings and representing the agency in public.
• Managing subscriptions to the website’s interactive directories.
• Developing agency policies related to the use of technology.
• Contributing written materials for agency publications.
• Supporting the public with agency related inquiries.
• Undertaking special projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: (These are required to successfully perform the work assigned).

• Knowledge of modern management principles and practices.
• Knowledge of public relations principles, practices, and techniques.
• Knowledge of grants management.
• Knowledge of the arts, art techniques, and artists.
• Ability to write, edit, and oversee design of arts publications.
• Ability to coordinate cultural information with various groups.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to follow complex procedural guidelines.
• Ability to speak in public.
• Ability to interpret and explain policies and procedures

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelors Degree computer science, or a related field and two (2) years experience working with artists, art groups, and/or humanities organizations. Directly related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Preference will be given to those applicants with a working knowledge of database maintenance, website design and maintenance, imaging software and Microsoft office suite.

This is difficult to interpret. You seem to put the emphasis on marketing, arts knowledge and interpersonal skills. There are few techies that also possess those skills. Would you consider a professional who has worked with computerized systems and is involved with the arts (and has the maturity and business skills)? Is the job using an already developed system (web site and database), with the available tools, or is it actually heavily weighted toward code writing?

I am asking for a friend, not for myself.

$50,876.80 would have to be the start for me to consider applying . but i don't think u even have that type of money .
