The 16th Annual Maine International Film Festival kicks off this Friday, July 12 in Waterville at Railroad Square Cinema and the Waterville Opera House.
Jonathan DemmeA 10 day celebration of cinema, MIFF shows over 100 films and brings over 50 filmmakers to Maine each summer. Highlights of this year’s festival include a return visit from Oscar-winner Jonathan Demme, the presentation of the annual Mid-Life Achievement Award to Oscar-winner Keith Carradine, and a free screenwriting workshop with Oscar-winner Ernest Thompson, who will also present the premiere of his new film. This year’s line-up also includes a number of Maine-made films, including Bluebird, The Guide, Magical Universe, RawFaith, a selection of Maine shorts, and a work in progress screening of two highly anticipated Maine films, Lost on a Mountain in Maine and Hermythology, a documentary about the North Pond Hermit.
