The 16th Annual Maine International Film Festival kicks off this Friday, July 12 in Waterville at Railroad Square Cinema and the Waterville Opera House.
A 10 day celebration of cinema, MIFF shows over 100 films and brings over 50 filmmakers to Maine each summer. Highlights of this year’s festival include a return visit from Oscar-winner Jonathan Demme, the presentation of the annual Mid-Life Achievement Award to Oscar-winner Keith Carradine, and a free screenwriting workshop with Oscar-winner Ernest Thompson, who will also present the premiere of his new film. This year’s line-up also includes a number of Maine-made films, including Bluebird, The Guide, Magical Universe, RawFaith, a selection of Maine shorts, and a work in progress screening of two highly anticipated Maine films, Lost on a Mountain in Maine and Hermythology, a documentary about the North Pond Hermit.
