Performing Arts Lead the Way at the 2011 Governor's Conference on Tourism

Maine's Performing Arts will take their customary center stage next week at the Governor's Confernce on Tourism as part of a state wide initiative set to promote Maine through the Performing Arts.

On February 17, (8am-5pm) The Maine Governor’s Conference on Tourism will be held at the Portland Holiday Inn by the Bay, providing professional development sessions, valuable networking, and the opportunity to meet with tourism professionals. The conference offers a place to exchange ideas and best practices that benefit the state's tourism industries. Admission is $50. This year the conference will feature the Maine Performs initiative. Maine Performs is a collaboration between the Maine Arts Commission, the Maine Office of Tourism, and a consortium group of presenting arts organizations. It is a project designed to promote the performing arts throughout the state and highlight Maine as a destination for cultural tourism. Printed material for the project features 22 of Maine’s finest performance destinations and directs reader to the Maine Tourism website where a directory of performing arts offerings will be posted. The directory is self-subscribed and all Maine performing arts organizations are encouraged to list their information. This will create a tremendous resource for all people looking for theatre, music, dance and other events in Maine.
